Unseasonably cold weather descended on Israel Tuesday, with intermittent rain falling throughout the country, accompanied by thunderstorms and hail.
Snow began falling overnight Monday on Mount Hermon, with accumulation of about 15 centimeters [6 inches]. The ski resort at the site will be closed to visitors as heavier snow is expected later in the day.
Snow also descended on the northern town of Safed, as well as on kibbutz Merom Golan in the Golan Heights.

In the West Bank, snow fell on Mount Bracha northeast of Nablus as well as in the settlement of Ofra and the settlement bloc of Gush Etzion.
Due to the heavy rainfall during the several past days, the water level of the Sea of Galilee has risen 7 centimeters, and currently the lake is missing 1.795 meters to reach its full capacity.
Light snow is expected to fall on mountain tops in central Israel on Tuesday, and there is a chance of flash floods in streams in the country's east and south.
Waves are expected to reach the height of 180-350 centimeters in the Mediterranean Sea, with northwestern wind gusts of 30-60 kph.
On Wednesday, isolated rain showers will fall through the afternoon, and a slight drop in temperatures is expected, but temperature will remain below the seasonal average. On Thursday there's a chance of light isolated rain showers in northern and central Israel, and are predicted to become stronger toward the evening.
