Stray projectile from Egypt strikes southern Israeli town - Haaretz

A projectile landed Saturday in the southern Israeli town of Bnei Netzarim, near the border with Egypt, the Israeli army said.

The army assessed that the projectile was stray fire from the Egyptian army's operations against terrorist organizations in northern Sinai.

No one was hurt in the incident, the army said. The projectile caused minor damage to cars and a nearby building.

The Eshkol Regional Council said in a statement, "A short time ago, a projectile weapon was identified in a town in the south of the regional council. It appears to be the result of an accidental launch from Egypt. Police sappers are on site. There were no injuries."

Sappers and police forces are present at the site, the police spokesperson said. They added that the damage seems to have been caused by shrapnel from the impact.

Earlier Saturday, the Egyptian army said that they had conducted major military operations against terrorist organizations in the northern Sinai Peninsula overnight Friday. According to the Egyptian army, Egypt killed 118 terrorists, detonated 273 explosive devices and uncovered 11 tunnels used by the organization.

On Friday, an attack in Bir Al-Abed in northern Sinai killed three Egyptian soldiers. ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack.
