Tuesday, November 6 marked a historic day for the USA, as two muslim women were elected to congress, aid Ma’an News.
The United States held their 2018 midterm elections yesterday, 42 year old Rashida Tlaib, the descendant of Palestinian refugees, a Muslim, a democrat, and an advocate for minority groups.
Ilhan Omar is a 37 year old, a mother, a Muslim, a democrat, a Somali refugee, and also a strong advocate for minority groups.
Ma’an stated that Rashida was the “first Muslim female to be elected to the House of Representatives.”, being elected into Michigan’s 13th Congressional District. Ilhan Omar is the first Somali-American to be elected into congress,
Omar tweeted to her supporters the following;
“Today is about more than winning. It’s about building a coalition to fight the politics of fear and scarcity. I’m a legislator, a refugee and a working mom, I am ready to organize for the America we deserve.”
